REAR COIL SPRINGS: A rear coil spring suspension system uses coil spring steel to cushion the wheels rear axle from the frame and chassis. The rear suspension on most last model cars is very similar to that of a front suspension employing springs and shock absorbers. The maintenance intervals for the shock absorbers are the same as that of the front, every 20,000 miles or sooner if you notice leakage or a poor ride. Occasionally, rear springs will begin to sag which can be noticed by a lower ride in the rear. If this condition occurs you'll need to replace the springs themselves.
